On Friday, September 27th, Hopeloft's first floor space hosted an open house for Families to College (FTC).
The goal of the event was to teach community members more about the FTC program and how it can help them and their loved ones. Dinner was provided, and over 50 children and families from Cumberland County attended and were able to learn about the services FTC provides such as college tours, family fun events, and an after school program.
FTC's Mentor Manager, Luz Gonzalez and Family Advocate, Lydia Cruz helped plan the event, and several AmeriCorps members were on-hand to assist.
FTC uses a "whole-family" approach to mentoring that cultivates familial bonds and improves academic and employment success. The program is able to assist families by assigning them a mentor who works with the entire family.
FTC is currently recruiting mentors (especially bilingual ones!) to help families in the community, so if you or someone you know is interested in volunteering to help a local family achieve their goals, please contact Luz through email: Luz@unitedadvocacygroup.org or by calling (856) 391-9168.
